A video showing a teacher’s behavior toward a child taking the LGS exam sparked a debate on social media. Prof. Dr. Ali Eryılmaz of Yıldız Technical University shared his insights with Hürriyet regarding the mother’s reaction to her daughter. 

Noting that similar conversations could be taking place in the homes of thousands of test-takers following the LGS, Prof. Dr. Ali Eryılmaz, a faculty member at the Faculty of Education at Yıldız Technical University, said the following:

“Unfortunately, in our social structure, there is a mindset that ‘my importance and value depend on the approval of those around me.’ Consequently, when others do not approve, a feeling of ‘I am worthless’ can arise. After the LGS, parents should first sit down with their children and ask them how they feel. Then, they can calmly share their own feelings with them. This way, after the exam, all family members become aware of how each other is feeling. Next, they should discuss why they are experiencing these emotions. Finally, they should accept these feelings and thoughts and have a conversation about what they need to do moving forward. Regardless of the outcome, families should encourage their children to take new steps toward the future by offering advice such as, “Establish a new routine in your life going forward—for example, organize your room.”

A graduation ceremony was held for 1,600 young people who successfully completed the 12-week training program as part of the “Artificial Intelligence at Work” project, carried out in collaboration between the Esenler Municipality and the Istanbul Development Agency (İSTKA). The ceremony, held at the Yıldız Technical University Congress and Culture Center, was attended by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, and Esenler Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu, along with numerous students and guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır stated that by allocating approximately $3 billion in public funds to data center and artificial intelligence investments, they would mobilize $10 billion in private sector investment. Minister Kacır said, “We will allocate at least 2 percent of total public spending within our own investment program to artificial intelligence projects, thereby generating over 1 trillion lira in value for the national economy.” 

Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik, Rector of Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ), explained that sustainable and fully independent growth is only possible when built on the solid foundations of the three pillars of education, technology, and development, and noted that artificial intelligence is changing paradigms across all fields.

Noting that the artificial intelligence model developed by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering—which they recently established to offer instruction in English—has turned their ambitions in this field into tangible success, Debik added:

“The pace of this transformative power is dizzying. To keep up with this pace, we must carry out the necessary work without delay. Because the best way to predict the future is to invent it. As universities and technology parks—the heart of science and technology—we must roll up our sleeves and work alongside our government agencies and entrepreneurs. Our university bears the historic responsibility of assuming academic and practical leadership in this strategic field."

The latest graduates of the artificial intelligence class, which was launched as part of Samsung Electronics’ “Innovation Campus” program—conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Turkey—presented their projects.

The artificial intelligence class, launched at Yıldız Technical University as part of the “Sector on Campus Program”—the digital learning platform of the National Technology Academy, which was established under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Technology—graduated its students again this year.

During the training program, participants gained technical skills in areas such as data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence modeling, and problem-solving, while also developing projects that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The digital art piece titled "Latent Weavings," designed by artist Raziyye Kuzu Atalay, blends Anatolia’s time-honored carpet and kilim motifs with artificial intelligence systems to present them to the viewer. 

Atalay stated that during her doctoral studies in the Art and Design Program at Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ), she trained an AI model using her own archive of Anatolian carpets and kilims.

The single-channel work, exhibited as part of the festival, consists of real-time moving images in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, created using deep learning algorithms and a specially curated dataset. “Latent Knots,” which brings a 9,000-year-old tradition—passed down from generation to generation by the hands of anonymous women at their looms—into the digital realm, also serves as an initiative to establish an archive bringing together more than 700 works from 48 regions.

Yıldız Technical University introduced its Hydrodynamics Laboratory—which is of critical importance to the maritime and defense industries—to industry representatives. During the launch event, one of Turkey’s first free-sailing experiment demonstrations was tested.

The “YTÜ Hydrodynamics Laboratory Introduction and Experiment Demonstration” event, organized by Yıldız Technical University’s Faculty of Shipbuilding and Maritime Sciences, was held at the YTÜ Davutpaşa Campus.

The program at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory, which began operations under the YTÜ MARINE Maritime Application and Research Center, was attended by Yıldız Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik, former YTÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin, YTÜ Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Güleda Engin, and YTÜ Chief Advisor to the Rector Prof. Dr. Özer Çınar, as well as numerous representatives from public institutions, defense industry organizations, shipyards, the maritime sector, and academia.

Scientists at Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) have developed an electroactive polymer that could contribute to the development of new-generation battery technologies with long lifespans and fast-charging capabilities.

Associate Professor Dr. Ali Can Zaman of the YTÜ Department of Metallurgy and his team have launched a study aimed at developing long-lasting, fast-charging next-generation battery technologies. As part of this effort, the researchers reacted elemental sulfur with acetone using a unique polymerization method. The study resulted in the development of a polymer that can store energy like sulfur and also exhibits hydrophobic properties.

A cooperation protocol was signed between Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University and Yıldız Technical University to promote joint research in scientific and technological fields, particularly hydrogen technologies.

During the meeting, the two universities discussed potential joint projects in scientific and technological fields—primarily hydrogen technologies—to be determined by the parties. At a ceremony held at the Rector’s Office of Yıldız Technical University, Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu signed the cooperation protocol on behalf of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, while Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik signed it on behalf of Yıldız Technical University. Under the protocol, which will remain in effect for two years, the goal is to develop joint research projects, prepare scientific publications, and enhance academic collaboration.

The rings that form on tree trunks each year not only indicate the tree’s age but also serve as a natural archive that reveals the droughts, fires, and effects of climate change that occurred in the region years ago. 

Prof. Dr. Ender Makineci, a faculty member in the Department of Soil Science and Ecology at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Forestry, demonstrated the annual ring counting method they conduct at Yıldız Technical University’s Davutpaşa Campus by performing the procedure on a tree.

Makineci explained that the annual rings formed on tree trunks provide scientists with important retrospective environmental data, noting that the ages of trees—which can live for thousands of years—are determined by counting the annual rings taken from cross-sections of the trunk.
