TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001 Funding for 10 YTÜ Projects

The results of the first round of the 2026 1001 Program for Supporting Scientific and Technological Research Projects, administered by the Presidency of Research Support Programs (ARDEB) at TÜBİTAK, have been announced. According to the results, 10 projects led by faculty members at Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) have been awarded funding.

Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik, Rector of Yıldız Technical University and Chairman of the Board of Directors of YTÜ Yıldız Technopark, met with our technopark companies as part of the Yıldız Tech Meetings. During the meeting, which also addressed preparations for COP31 to be held in Antalya in November, strategies for strengthening university-industry collaborations and YTÜ’s new infrastructure developments and international expansion strategies were discussed.

Publications in WoS and Scopus have been added to the evaluation criteria for TÜBİTAK 2219 applications

TÜBİTAK has revised the evaluation criteria for applications to the 2219 Overseas Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program. Under the new regulations, scientific outputs achieved in the year of application and the two preceding calendar years will be included in the scoring system for the first time. Publications indexed in WoS, Scopus, and TR Dizin, as well as certain international conference papers, will play a role in determining the minimum support score for the first time.

Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) is hosting an international summer school program launched as part of its collaboration with the Nizami Gencevi National Pedagogical University in Uzbekistan. Organized with the support of the Turkish World Education and Development Center (TDTİM), the program aims to strengthen international cooperation in the field of education by bringing together academics from Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan under one roof.

The Yıldız Technical University Solarboat Team will represent Turkey at the Njord Autonomous Challenge, to be held in Trondheim, Norway, from August 3–17, 2026. Having completed months of preparation, the team aims to make YTÜ and Turkey known to the world on the international stage with the autonomous boat they have developed.

Study on a Uterine Cancer Drug at YTÜ

Cervical cancer remains one of the most serious diseases threatening women’s health. Academics at Yıldız Technical University are working on a promising drug candidate to combat this disease. The initial results obtained from laboratory studies are remarkable. While traditional cancer treatments destroy cancer cells, the methods used can lead to serious side effects. The new drug candidate developed at YTÜ is intended to both effectively eliminate cancer cells and significantly reduce side effects.

Prof. Dr. Mevlüde Canlıca, a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at Yıldız Technical University, and her team—who are part of the project—have developed an internationally patented active pharmaceutical ingredient that eliminates cervical cancer cells.

We confuse learning with memorization

At a workshop on the theme of “Learning,” organized in collaboration between the Faculty of Education at Istanbul Aydın University and the Center for Research and Application on Social Issues (TARMER), academics from various universities across Turkey discussed the fundamental problems of the education system and the phenomenon of learning from a multifaceted perspective.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat İnce from Yıldız Technical University stated, “Learning is not merely acquiring knowledge, but being able to relate to that knowledge and apply it. Today, students learn a great many formulas but struggle to connect them to real-life situations.”
