The SMARTNET Project—in which Yıldız Technical University is the ultimate beneficiary and which is carried out in partnership with three universities—was honored at the IPA II Competitive Sectors Program held in Ankara. With a budget of 2,498,000 euros, the project aimed to support the commercialization of scientific knowledge and innovative ideas developed at universities.
Yıldız Technical University, in collaboration with YTÜ Yıldız Technopark, kicked off the “Culture and Arts Under the Stars” season with the “Welcome to Youth” concert and discussion, aimed at preparatory and first-year students. During the program, YTÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik shared his experiences and insights with the students, covering topics ranging from his student years to his academic career, the university’s goals, time management, and the role of art in personal development.
Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, Vice Rector of Yıldız Technical University, served as a speaker at the 1st International Symposium titled “The Present and Future of Cognitive Linguistics in Turkic States,” organized by the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. In addition, Prof. Dr. Karakaya attended the signing ceremony for the Center for Cognitive Linguistics of the Turkic States, in which YTÜ is a partner.
Ergün Kırlıkovalı, the Turkish inventor and polymer scientist behind the polymer coating technology that makes F-35 and B-2 aircraft invisible, will meet with our students and faculty members at Yıldız Technical University as part of the Science Café event.
Students from Yıldız Technical University won three awards at the İnovaTİM Innovation Competition, held as part of Turkey Innovation Week 2026 (TIW26). The AGRILENS project took first place in the Sustainability category, while the BIORELEASE project took second place in the same category. The MYOGRIP project was awarded third place in the Artificial Intelligence category.
As part of the “Science Café” events coordinated by the Science Communication Office of the Council of Higher Education, the “Living Together in Harmony” conference, organized by the YTÜ Sultan II. Abdülhamid Application and Research Center, will take place on October 20, 2026, at Otağ-ı Hümayun on October 20, 2026. Prof. Dr. Kamuran Gökdağ, a faculty member at Mardin Artuklu University, will speak at the conference.
Niche Roof, which has opened at YTÜ’s Yıldız Campus, welcomes students, faculty, and guests with its 350-person capacity, Bosphorus views, and dietitian-approved menu. With a menu ranging from select dishes of Turkish cuisine to à la carte options, the venue also offers special rates to YTÜ faculty, students, and alumni for weddings, engagement parties, and private events.
Applications are now being accepted for the Digital University Platform, led by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and coordinated by Yıldız Technical University and Marmara University. Applications for the program, which includes 16 training modules in the fields of artificial intelligence, data analysis, and green transformation, will be accepted until October 20, 2026. The training is free of charge, and classes will be conducted online.
The Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) 2026–2027 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held at the university’s Congress and Culture Center with the participation of Erol Özvar, President of the Higher Education Council (YÖK). Following the ceremony, held at the Davutpaşa Campus Congress and Culture Center and attended by YTÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik, faculty members, students, and numerous guests, Özvar delivered the first lecture of the academic year.
The Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) 2026–2027 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held with the participation of Higher Education Council (YÖK) President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. Speaking at the ceremony, Özvar shared his assessments regarding quality in higher education, the use of artificial intelligence, and international success goals, while YTÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik drew attention to the targeting of educational institutions in Gaza and the importance of the “Turkey Free of Terrorism” goal. The opening ceremony was attended by Mahmut Ak and Arif Bilgin, members of the YÖK Executive Board; Avni Kula, Deputy Governor of Istanbul; Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Okur, Rector of Marmara University; Esenler District Governor Süleyman Özçakıcı, and Esenler District Director of National Education Feyzullah Sert, as well as students, academics, and numerous guests.
Speaking at the ceremony, Higher Education Council (YÖK) President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated, “In the brief surveys we conducted, we found that multiple-choice exams have begun to become widespread even in our law schools. We have learned that a similar trend is evident in programs in the social sciences, health sciences, and even engineering, theology, education, and technical fields. This situation raises the question of to what extent we are able to assess our students’ critical thinking, analytical, communication, and practical skills. I would like to express my expectation that universities give greater prominence to methods that reveal students’ thought processes and ability to provide reasoning,” he said.
