The Yıldız Technical University Sports Club extended its winning streak in the Korfball League to 25 games over the weekend, while the American Football Team returned from its away game in İzmir with a 23-0 victory, continuing its consistent run in the professional leagues.

Representing our university in professional leagues, the Yıldız Technical University Sports Club completed its matches in two different disciplines on April 18–19 without suffering a single loss. Competing with the goal of winning the championship in both the Turkish Rugby Federation (TRF) Protected Football 2nd League and the Turkish Federation of Emerging Sports Branches 2026 Turkey Korfball League, the club secured dominance over its rivals both on the court and on the field, thereby solidifying its leading positions in its respective groups.

The first successful results of the weekend came from the Istanbul Pendik Kurtköy Sports Hall. As part of the 5th week matches of the 2026 Turkey Korfball League, the YTÜ Korfball Team faced Kocaeli 1937 Seka Sports Club on Saturday, April 18, and emerged victorious with a score of 29-5 thanks to their effective play on both defense and offense. The team carried this momentum into the match against Haydarpaşa High School Sports Club on Sunday, April 19, defeating their opponent 25-17. Reaping the rewards of the systematic training led by Assistant Professors Gülsüm Sonal and Çetin Erdem Sonal, the team secured its seventh victory of the season with these scores, achieving a remarkable statistic with a seven-game winning streak in a total of 25 matches.

Flawless defense in the away game in İzmir 

In tandem with the Korfball team’s success in Istanbul, the club’s American Football Team, known as the Stallions, also navigated a critical turning point unscathed in İzmir. Our representative, visiting the Ege Dolphins Sports Club in the TRF American Football 2nd League, won the match—played with the goal of securing the championship—by a score of 23-0. 

Having won their first match of the season at home in Istanbul (at the YTÜ Davutpaşa Campus Football Field) against the Ankara Etimesgut Municipality Sports Club with a score of 20-6, the Yıldız Stallions have now emerged victorious from both of their matches. In their second match against the Ege Dolphins Sports Club, the team demonstrated their defensive discipline by not allowing the opponent to score, fully reflecting the technical staff’s strategic analysis on the field.
