YTÜ: The Patent Champion in Turkey and Europe

According to the 2025 data from the Patent Report, Yıldız Technical University ranked first in Turkey among state universities in 10 out of 20 different technology fields. While our university maintained its leading position in international patent applications, it also took the top spot in European patent applications. 

The 2025 data from the PatentEffect Report has been released. Yıldız Technical University has once again demonstrated its leading role in the R&D and innovation ecosystem. Our university increased the number of first-place rankings in technology fields from 2 in 2023 and 5 in 2024 to 10 in 2025. YTU, which shapes Turkey’s technology production capacity, outperformed its competitors in both national registrations and European Patent Office (EPO) applications.

At the top in 10 strategic fields

In the ranking of state universities, YTÜ emerged as the university producing the most patents across 10 technology fields. With 107 patents in the “Advanced Materials” field, YTÜ outpaced its closest competitors, Atatürk University (78) and Ege University (77); it also became Turkey’s leading university in terms of patent applications in the fields of Battery Technologies, Green Technologies, Additive Manufacturing, and Production and Construction.

YTÜ leads the way in eco-friendly innovations with 88 patent applications in the "Green Technologies" field, while it filed 47 applications in the "Manufacturing and Construction" category. In this field, Yıldız Technical University was followed by Karadeniz Technical University (25) and Istanbul Technical University (24).

A Leader on the International Stage

YTÜ’s national success has also extended to the international stage. In the PCT general ranking, which covers international patent applications, it ranked first among state universities with 155 applications

According to European Patent (EP) application data, YTÜ also ranked first among Turkish universities with 15 applications, demonstrating its commitment to technology export and global competitiveness.

Patent numbers also translated into commercialization

YTÜ has extended its success in patent numbers to commercialization. According to 2025 data, Yıldız Technical University ranked second by successfully commercializing 34 patents, followed by Koç University with 28 registrations and Ege University with 26 registrations.
