Bologna Process

Bologna Process at Yıldız Technical University

The Bologna Process is a restructuring process created and maintained by 48 member and candidate countries with the cooperation of many international organizations aiming to build a European Higher Education Area.

Citizens of countries within the European Higher Education Area, which the Bologna Process aims to create, will be able to easily move around this area to study or work in higher education.  With this process, Europe, including Turkey, is supposed to become more preferable than other parts of the world in terms of both higher education and job opportunities.

The goal of the Bologna Process is to strike a balance between diversity and unity. The aim is to make higher education systems comparable and compatible with each other while preserving their unique differences. In this way, it is planned to facilitate the transition from one country or higher education system to another and thus increase the mobility and employment of students and lecturers.

The main objectives of the Bologna Process can be expressed as follows:

  • To create higher education diplomas and/or degrees that are easy to comprehend and comparable to each other. (For this purpose, Diploma Supplement is applied.)
  • To switch to a two-stage system as Bachelor's and Master's in higher education.
  • To implement the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
  • To ensure and disseminate the mobility of students and teaching staff.
  • To implement and expand the network of quality assurance systems in higher education.
  • To develop the European dimension of higher education.

In line with these objectives, Yıldız Technical University has reorganized all its programs and courses in accordance with the European Higher Education Qualifications Framework and the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework. ECTS Label and DS Label (Diploma Supplement Label), which are indicators of this situation, were bestowed on our university by the relevant commissions of the EU in June 2013. Since this date, the Bologna Process has been successfully implemented at our university by renewing and updating itself in line with the principle of continuous improvement.
